Remember when mixtapes were the lifeblood of hip-hop culture? Datpiff was the epicenter of that movement, turning raw, underground talent into household names and defining a generation of music fans.
I loved this site. Quiet as it’s kept they also had some of the best R&B mixtapes you could find. Especially in the blog era when the sound turned monochromatic.
Yooo my bad, I'm just seeing this! But the R&B thing you mentioned also just reminded me... Remember when Fan of Fan dropped? Think it was one of their highest downloaded mixtapes. Deuces was killing the radio
i'll never forget the rush of 'discovering' new music on datpiff and hip hop daily back in the day. i wasn't allowed to listen to most rap and hip hop growing up, so i had to burn CDs at friends' houses and sneak around to listen. but i craved the sound. lil wayne's da drought 3 and jewelry selection by gucci mane hated to see me coming back then! haha thanks so much for writing this piece and reminding me about the origins of my love for R&B and hip hop.
we have to talk about 4 shared, contributed a lot in the same era.
Ahh man, can’t forget about 4 shared. Shoutout to them and mediafire lol

They were doing so much work breaking new artists because they could give the people what they wanted. I loved it.
where my obsession with Frank Ocean’s - Lonny Breaux album began 🙂↕️
